Hi, My name is Krys… well Kristi (I was young, wanted to be different and the spelling Krys stuck!) I’m a very proud stay-at-home-momma of a little girl and a lucky wife. I’m a friendly Maritimer who has spent most of my life living all over Canada and am very proud to call NS home now! I love east coast living, the beach, the woods and anywhere I can just be outside with my family! After my daughter was born, I wasn’t really looking for anything and that’s usually when something just falls in your lap! She had been given a generic placemat with her name on it and I was just tired of it. Wanted something a little more her and wintery so I set off to the computer and started playing around.
Having a diploma in Photography, I dusted off my digital imagery skills and away I went. It turns out I was pretty good at it and it was fun. It’s amazing what a photographer can do with Photoshop even though I’m no longer touching photographs! Growing up, both my brother and I didn’t get things with our names on them and I thought this would be a great opportunity. I started out with 15 placemat designs, launched myself on Facebook in March 2013 and then got into a few Spring craft shows and off I went.
I’m a stay at mom and I suffer from chronic migraines. I find running my own business is the perfect fit for my busy lifestyle. I get to decide how busy I am when depending on my health and family. I find myself lucky to have found this outlet to express my creativity and put smile on little faces despite suffering from this health condition.
Thru the last few years I kept adding products and of course adding designs and all of it has been so much fun. I get so much joy out of designing. With my background in photography, I always need to add shadows and depth to my designs. All of which makes the image stand out just a little bit more!
The online response has been great and fairs are incredible… It’s wonderful to see everyone’s (both children and adults) reactions to my products. They get excited if they see their name or one of there favourite things or characters. Especially once they realize it’s all custom and personally made for them (that’s my favourite part of all of it).
I thought I would begin by introducing myself. My love for jewelry design grew from watching my daughters create earrings and lovely long necklaces. Once I tried it I couldn’t stop. I watched videos and just took a leap of faith and my interest grew as well as my product base. I set my sights on nautical gifts. So I delved into purchasing some wholesale products but also creating handcrafted items. Someday my dream is to open a gift shop. Jan Keats
